Actions Semiconductor has developed new tablet system on chip (SoC) solutions designed to provide total processing power for today’s advanced multimedia, multi-tasking tablet market. Actions Semiconductor’s OWL series boasts the flagship ATM7029 SoC.

The ATM7029 is the first member of the OWL family and features an integrated Leopard generation I CPU core. It offers a quad-core CPU for advanced performance and functionality while also providing low power performance and low cost savings. The SoC has a multi-core 3D graphics processing unit (GPU) and an independent video processing unit (VPU). It also has an image signal processing (ISP) engine, all of which are integrated in the ATM7029. This ensures users will enjoy high-performance video and audio playback and recording.

To best balance high performance and low power requirements, Actions Semiconductor leveraged the low power design (LPD) generation II  and adaptive dynamic power (ADP) architectures. With these features built into the OWL Series, tablet designers can ensure customers enjoy longer battery life alongside high performance experiences. The design of the ATM7029 allows for high performance and low power with a low bill of material (BOM).

The SoC has integrated LVDS interface and HDMI transmitter (Tx), two “must-have” features of the tablet market. It also has a DDR3/DDR3L controller and large capacity NAND flash controller with 60bit ECC/toggle NAND. This approach allows system designers to adopt the most cost-effective memory.  The ATM7029 can be combined with Actions Semiconductor’s companion chip, the ATC2603X. The ATC2603X has an integrated power management unit (PMU) and audio codecs.
